Obituary of Doreen Haight

HAIGHT, Doreen Mary (Raine) - Of St. Thomas and Port Stanley passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89 on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026. Daughter of Percy and Doris, Doreen was born in Prescott on May 7th, 1936. She is the proud sister of the late Ken Shearham (Dorothy), and grew up alongside her sister and soulmate, the late Joyce Hambleton (Ernie). Having raised four boys, Doreen is the beloved mother of Bob Hayes, Jonathon Hayes (Bethany), Joel Hayes (Karen and late Jennifer), and Stephen Hayes (Alison). She is the cherished grandmother of Rachel (Josh), Peri, Aviva, Lex, Kincade, Lucy, and Clover; adored great-grandmother of Ella and Leo. Doreen married her great love (late Jack Haight) in 1984, and is dearly remembered by nephews, nieces and lifelong friends, including Jane Robertson (Larry) and Bert Vickerman (late Don). Throughout her adventure-filled life, Doreen was fulfilled by her education and her work at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, immersed in her creative endeavours — namely painting, pottery, scrapbooking, and sewing — enjoyed her extensive travels, and was unwavering as her family’s passionate historian. Regarding her service club involvement, she was a member of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire and The Red Hat Society. Moreover, Doreen collaborated with a dedicated team to spearhead the annual fundraising event in Elgin County for the Canadian Diabetes Association, and was presented a civic award for her efforts. The resilient Doreen is treasured for her incredible confidence, and deeply admired for her earnest nature. She had a way of making a house a home; evident in her ability to fill a room with the people she loves. With gratitude, Extendicare Port Stanley is immensely appreciated for their care and support. Cremation was arranged through Simplicity Cremation, and Doreen’s ashes will be spread this spring by family. Grammie, we will see you in the sky and always carry your LOVE.
